Breaking Bond Part XXIII: Die Another Day

2002 marked the 40th anniversary of the release of Dr. No – the very first EON produced James Bond film.  So, to mark that 40th anniversary the 20th EON produced Bond film ‘Die Another Day’ would be released.

This would be the first Bond of the new millennium so how would the action hero icon of the 20th century welcome in the 21st century?

Bigger than ever before of course with estimated budgets of $140 – $190 million and competition that year from ‘Spider-Man’, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, and a newcomer…some kid named Harry Potter.  Even Austin Powers was back.

So, by the time November 22, 2002, rolled around the audience was primed for the film that would be packed with more than just ice but with Oscar winners, Pop Culture icons, and more homages to Ian, Cubby, Roger, and Sean than one could count.

And by the end of it all Pierce Brosnan would put us right back where we started – picking yet another actor to shoulder the iconic  holster of James Bond 007.
